ĪMAZING to suggest that a huge company like eBay has slow software! When I put in my customized highest bid at twenty seconds before ending time, the eBay computing system did not have time to enter all of the customized bids of the other bidder to bring it up to the other bidders highest bid before the countdown completed so when the countdown clock completed it recorded the previous bis as what it was on the screen. One must enter a larger limit in the custom box. When one places a bid, the bidding screen suggests smaller highest amount increments. We both put in a much higher custom amount than the highest bid showing on the screen. That bid was recorded around noon according to the clockdown clock, The person who made that bid is the same person that you call the "nibble bidder" but that person is just a proxy bidder as I was. The second time I bid at twenty seconds before the countdown clock closed, there was a hidden custom bid. Therefore the countdown clock ended the auction normally. The first time I bid at twenty seconds before countdown ended there were no hidden higher proxy bids so there were no other bids for the system to automatically count up higher. The system does this in increments larger than a dollar when it records the bids we see on screen because it is bringing hidden custom higher bids into correspondence with each other. What you call "nibble bids" is just the system automatically raising the bid up to the bidders limit in response to a higher limit. The way that eBay bidding works is that one enters the highest amount that one is willing to go but one's actual bid is only a dollar more than the next highest bid and that is what is shown on the screen. Recently I voted in two auctions at about 20 seconds before the countdown completed.īoth times the countdown time is reported onscreen as ending ahead of the posted time. What I am about to say might be why- not a very good software system solution. The clock countdown, for whatever reason, is listed as ending an hour earlier than the posted ending. Worse it makes me lose confidence in the eBay bidding process.ĭoes anyone know how to get through to Ebay on this- and has this happened to anyone else? This left me feeling like I was going through an exercise in futility. I asked for a time frame or the direct contact to tech but I was told they could not give that to me. Since the space to report what had happened was small, I had provided minimal information but no further information was requested, not even the item I was bidding on. I was told they were sorry this happened and that they would report it to tech. All I could find were the usual options so I reported it to Live Chat. I paid the seller the higher price and tried to report this to eBay. I also noticed that the time recorded in bidding history was three hours behind the static time posted for theend of the auction which corresponds with the time on my computer clock. ![]() I still won but at double the price that I would have had to pay according to the clock down that was stated when I placed my bid. Last night, however, once I placed my bid, there was suddenly another hour added to the count-down clock.Īpproximately four minutes after I placed my bid, when the auction should have been completed according to the clockdown clock I was seeing when I placed my bid, someone else started bidding the item up. The first time everything proceeded as expected and the auction was completed as predicted by the count-down clock. In both instances, I watched the count-down clock and posted my bid when there were twenty seconds to go. II.During the last two items that I bid on, I noticed that the amount of time recorded on the count-down clock does not correspond with the static ending time poster in black.
